tadalafil at 20 mg may present several side effects, among the most common being:
1. Effects on the cardiovascular system
Arterial hypertension: in some cases, it may cause a slight increase in blood pressure. This is particularly important in patients with a history of unwell controlled hypertension.
Palpitations: may experience faster or irregular heartbeat. This is due to relaxation of vascular muscles and possible increase in blood flow in the heart.
2. Effects on the nervous system
Headache: is one of the most common side effects. It may vary in intensity, from a mild headache to more severe pain. The cause is related to changes in cerebral blood circulation caused by the vasodilating action of tadalafil.
Lumbar pain: some patients may feel pain in the lumbar region. Although the exact mechanism is not completely clear, it is thought to be related to changes in intrarectal pressure and pelvic muscles.
3. Effects on the digestive system
Abdominal pain: a deaf pain or discomfort in the abdomen may occur. This is due to changes in blood circulation in abdominal organs and relaxation of smooth muscles in the digestive tract.
Diarrhoea or constipation: may alter the normal rhythm of intestinal transit, which may result in diarrhea or, sometimes, constipation.
4. Effects on skin and soft tissues
Blush (erythema): dilation of surface blood vessels can cause a blush on the face, neck, or trunk. This is a common side effect of tadalafil induced vasodilation.
Rhinitis: in some patients, nasal congestion or rhinitis may occur. This is due to the dilation of blood vessels in the nasal mucosa.
Other reactions
Decreased vision: although rare, in some cases a decrease in vision has been reported, particularly in the perception of the green-blue color. This is due to inhibition of an enzyme called phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6) in the eye, which has a structure similar to PDE5, the main target of tadalafil.
Myasthenia (loss of muscle strength): in extremely rare cases, cases of myasthenia associated with the use of tadalafil have been reported. This is due to possible interaction with muscle receptors and cell signaling related to muscle contraction.
It is important to note that not all patients will experience these adverse effects and that most of them are mild and transient. However, if serious or persistent side effects occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately. In addition, tadalafil should not be used by patients taking nitrates, as the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
