Tadalafil 20 mg is used primarily for the following purposes:
1. Treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED)
Mechanism for action:
-Tadalafil inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5). This enzyme is responsible for the degradation of nitrogen monoxide (no)-cyclic monophosphate guanosin mediate (cGMP) in penile cavernous tissue. By inhibiting PDE-5, tadalafil increases cGMP levels, resulting in a relaxation of smooth muscles in the cavernous bodies of the penis, allowing increased blood flow and consequent erection.
Effectiveness:
-in many men with ED, taking tadalafil 20 mg can improve the ability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity.
2. Treatment of benign prostate hypertrophy (HBP)
Mechanism for action:
-although not fully understood, it is believed that inhibition of PDE-5 in the tissues of the lower urinary tract can help relax the muscles of the prostatic uterus and smooth musculature of the bladder neck, reducing symptoms associated with PPH.
Improved symptoms:
-it can relieve symptoms such as difficulty urinating, a frequent need to urinate, a interrupted urination, and a feeling of not completely emptying the bladder.
3. In some cases, for the combination of both problems (DE and HBP) in men presenting them simultaneously
Joint benefit:
-provides a unique therapeutic option for men suffering from both erectile dysfunction and benign prostate hypertrophy, as it can address both problems with a single medication.
However, tadalafil has contraindications and can cause side effects, and should be prescribed and supervised by a doctor.
