Tadafila (Tadalafil): uses for ED and PAH and precautions
Tadalafil is used for the following purposes:
1. Treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED)
Mechanism for action:
-Tadalafil inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5). This enzyme is responsible for degrading nitrogen monoxide (no)-cyclic monophosphate guanosin dependent (cGMP) in the vascular smooth muscle of the penis. By inhibiting PDE-5, the concentration of cGMP increases, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis, facilitating erection.
Effectiveness:
-help men with SD achieve and maintain sufficient erections for sexual activity.
2. Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (HTPA)
Mechanism for action:
-in the pulmonary artery, PDE inhibition-5 by tadalafil causes a relaxation of the vascular smooth muscle. This decreases pulmonary vascular resistance, which helps reduce pulmonary blood pressure and improve cardiac function and exercise capacity in patients with ATPH.
Effectiveness:
-it has been shown that symptomatology, functional capacity and survival can be improved in some patients with HTPA.
3. Treatment of erectile dysfunction and benign symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Mechanism for action:
-by relaxing the muscles of the lower urinary tract, tadalafil can improve the symptoms of BPH, such as difficulty urinating, urinary frequency, and urinary urgency, while treating ED. This is because smooth muscle in the prostate and lower urinary tract also responds to cGMP modulation.
Effectiveness:
-it can improve the quality of life of men suffering from both DE and BPH.
It is important to note that tadalafil should be prescribed by a doctor and consideration should be given to possible adverse effects and contraindications before use.
